(May 23) - A seven-legged calf was born at a veterinary hospital in Steamboat Springs, Colo., on Thursday, according to the Steamboat Pilot & Today.
The staff at the Steamboat Veterinary Hospital said the Black Angus calf, which was delivered by cesarean section, had two spines but one head. One leg also had two hooves.

The calf lived for only about 10 minutes.
Veterinarian Lee Meyring says the birth was an incomplete splitting of the embryo into twins.

“I’ve been in practice for 14 years, and I’ve only seen one other calf with a fifth leg,” Meyring told the Steamboat Pilot & Today. “And so this one’s definitely the most bizarre I’ve seen."
The hospital says the calf's owners do not want to be identified.

Rare Sightings
Fareeda, an endangered white Bengal tiger, was born without stripes. The six-month-old cub is the only one of her kind in the wild today and one of only 20 in captivity. The odds of her not having markings were 100 to one. Flip through this gallery for a look at other sightings of some rare animals.
